Oh come on.
by rundeep

You've never been to a party where bad stuff happened before or after you left? Or to a bar? Did you not go to college or did they not drink there? Because I know I've been in bars where fistfights, coke-snorting, and even shots have been fired. I once was in the ladies room in a bar looking through a conveniently open window when I heard a carjacking. Does that make me responsible for that conduct? Or encouraging of it. Bullshit.

And please. You are just ignoring a mountain of evidence to get to a preferred result. I'm truly sorry this young woman seems to have had a hard life. But you don't need to paint every reasonably well off white boy as a rapist to help her out.

Re: More than invited

I've never said I want them punished in any particular way. I just think it's absurd to cast them as nice people. They are not, and we as a society SHOULD evince disapproval of their actions and attitudes. We have a right -- and a responsibility -- to make sane moral judgements, not just accurate jury verdicts. If we cannot at least agree, as a society, that beating people up, and joking about murdering hookers, is not the behavior of "nice boys", then we have a serious problem.
This is where the party ends...
by auros

Title taken from TMBG's song, "You and your racist friends." Seligman cannot possibly have not known about the thuggishness of his fellow players. Did he refuse to associate with it? No. He went to a party, the invitation for which specifically described hiring, and then murdering, sex workers.

As for character witnesses, Scooter Libby has them coming out his ears, though of course, many of them are themselves scumbags.

That is really reprehensible.
by rundeep

The vile email was sent after the party. And according to the original timeline (the one the accuser first gave, before she saw all the exculpatory evidence), he would have been there for all of 5-10 minutes while she was. Based on one of her later stories (there were 12 versions, according to 60 minutes), he would have been on the phone with his girlfriend at the height of the attack.

Again, I'm not a fan of guys hiring strippers for private parties. But it is amazing how fast liberals become conservatives and conservatives become liberals when their preferred results are not forthcoming.

Why are you all so convinced that no white male athlete might, just might, not be a wannabe rapist?

Re: The AG was trying to keep his Bar License
by pfish

Don't be an idiot. AG Cooper's (AG stands for Attorney General, btw Einstein) bar license was never in jeopardy. Perhaps you're thinking of DA Nifong (District Attorney).

And the one who was involved in the DC incident was A) not the primary and B) barely involved.

It doesn't sound like you've even followed the case, much less that you know what the hell you're talking about. You're just shooting off your mouth - much like the disgraced DA. Doesn't sound like you've learned ANYTHING from the collapse of pillars under your worldview.

Those nice innocent boys sound much smarter than you!

Cooper is the AG, Nifong was the DA

get a clue.
for someone who doesn't know what they're talking about
by pfish

you sure share a lot of uninformed opinions.

tommrow night, after tonights show, ive decided to have some strippers over to edens 2c. all are welcome.. however there will be no nudity. i plan on killing the bitches as soon as the walk in and proceding to cut their skin off while cumming in my duke issue spandex.. all in besides arch and tack please respond

Like I said: Not funny. Not nice. I can't quite buy Degs' argument that they're guilty in this particular case, but they clearly were thugs.

It's from Bret Easton Ellis's "American Psycho" which they were reading in a class.

You've never heard of contemporary fiction? Or is it just too highbrow for you?

Re: Don't put words in my mouth
by pfish

Happily the big payoff has now begun. & DA Nifong hasn't even been sued yet. It's fitting I think that Duke picked up their legal tabs, so now they can go after Nifong's pension just for the sport of it. I think that would be VERY nice.

Re: More than invited
by pfish

I disagree, those innocent boys seemed quite nice indeed. Did you see one of them on Good Morning America the other day? He gave an impressively intelligent and articulate performance, especially for someone who's not even out of undergrad yet.

One thing I think we can all agree upon is that nice young men in Durham (and all over the Eastern seaboard for that matter) will think twice about inviting human petri dishes to come dance at their parties.

Re: Since when do "nice" boys
by pfish

Degsme you obviously haven't followed the case and don't even know what you're bloviating about. You should spend more time on legitimate academic disciplines and less time parroting whatever PC loudmouth is within earshot. You need to develop some critical thinking skills.

Re: Seligman showed at the party
by pfish

Desperate, aren't you?

How do I know - just KNOW - you're poor at math?! (& the sciences, engineering, economics, business, law, and any other discipline which demands critical thinking skills...)

the law is not about being nice.
by Reprobate

there are all kinds of exceedingly nasty people roaming around that never break the law or go to jail.

The law is a hammer we use to protect society from behavior that cannot be tolerated in a civilized society, that poses a direct threat to our social structures and well being.

laws are passed by consensus, they should be prosecuted based on evidence, not the personal whimsey of a prosecutor.

Re: Legally yes
by binkleyz

No, not like OJ. OJ was acquitted, but everyone (with an ounce of brains) knows that OJ did exactly what he was charged with. Also, at the end of the day, two people are still dead.

I think it's fair to say now that everyone knows that these 3 did NOT do what they were charged with. In fact, NOBODY did the act that they were charged with. No crime was committed, apart from one that the mentally delusional Ms. Magnum committed in falsely accusing these 3.

What evidence do you possess that these 3 abused ANYONE in the past, much less that they would do so in the future?

Sorry - I did confuse your reference
by degsme

Sorry, I did confuse your AG reference with DA Nifong.

The AG doesn't know jack about this case other than its politically good theater to pile on Nifong and play up to the atty's of these thugs.

Yeah I've followed the case. These men are thugs. They just happen to be telegenic, priviledged, and white and have excellent attys (wanna bet one of the atty's contacted the AG to ask for AG to make a public statement?)

No pillars have collapsed under my world-view. The assault conviction still exists, history didn't rewrite itself. The history of verbal abuse of women still exists, history didn't rewrite itself. The email about murdering strippers still exists, it didn't spontaneously self-delete.

These men are thugs.

Last I checked
by degsme

Last I checked, American Psycho wasn't signed with the Duke LaXers team jersey number nor did it have references to Duke issued spandex.

Are you one of the atty's for these thugs? your line of defense fits pretty closely, and spins appropriately. Sorry but "nice boys" (nice try on the "boy's" part as well) don't riff on the death scene from Romeo and Juliet either, and preachers who focus too much on the tortures of Revelations are rightly questioned for their predelictions as well.

These are thugs.
