Re: Feedback for XX Factor writers
by Wren W

So not only is the blog for XX persons but it is for XX persons with a prescriped set of beliefs and opinions?

Are you sure we can't make the participation criteria even narrower?

This whole thing is an insultingly stupid idea.

Can you clarify what you're responding to? Spiker, our comments or my original post? I think The XX Factor is a great idea and should include male writers as well. Women's rights movements continue to make strides with the efforts of male allies.

I understand where you're coming from - I truly do. I can totally see your points and part of me agrees with you. But part of me does not. And I'm sticking to that. I based my comments on your concern about 10 year olds having sex on your own statements to me and to GeneralDisarray in another post. Thank you for telling me I write well. I do tend to prattle on sometimes, so - yes, good feedback. I actually was thinking about this all day today and feel bad that this got heated in some respects. At the same time, I do see your points and I hear your concerns. And you pushed me to research more and clarify my own thinking for myself. I think your concerns are valid concerns. In my gut, though, after all I've read and thought about and in my experience as a to-be health care provider, I believe that minors should have certain confidential rights when it comes to health care. I understand your frustration about parents not being informed if their children are seeking the birth control pill. On the other hand, I think it's arguably Constitutionally sound -- I bet you a quarter this case or a case like it will get to the U.S. Supreme Court at some point.

I'm responding to your original post.

I am glad we took the time to go back and forth because it to consolidated my ideas for when I share them with others. It also allows me to see how the opposite side views things and why. I too get your position but feel free to maintain mine. I felt no special acrimony for anyone and if anyone has felt that or taken any hurt from anything I've said they probably value my opinion too much. They should value their own more than anybody elses cause it will hurt them less in the end. Thats not too say we shouldn't listen to other people's opinion.

Two points of clarity. Nowhere in anything I posted was my anger(for the lack of a better word) directed at any children or the fact that they were merely seeking the pill would be held confidential. But rather that very young children would be enabled to commit acts not beneficial to their well being by their actually acquiring harmful drugs w/o notifying the parents.

Second is that it became clearer exactly what class of people are the unintended victims here. I can easily come up with a counseling protocol that would negate most parental over reaction to children acquiring contraceptives.

Bon voyage as you embark on your trip as a health care provider. It is sure to reward you justly. :0)

With THIS supreme court I'll take that wager. Got odds ;-)
