The Obama bit is a later addition, though :) This one has been circulating on the 'net at least since late 2006 at least, and in the days when Lady Clinton seemed to be slated for Dem nomination, she was the one who played the 'frigid lesbian' role in the joke.

Some variation of it probably dates back to Egyptian times, but I thought we needed a little levity.

And it does speak to some universal truths. Commonalities between ordinary 'foot soldiers' who're helpless pawns in the games their powerful (and not very loved) rulers play.......

Unattributed email.

I did a gig at the UN years ago (revamping their philatelic systems - the only part of the UN that actually makes money). We obviously could not tell ethnic jokes, so we used extinct cultures as substitutes, like "So Bel-Marduk and Gilgamesh walk into a bar..." or "How many Cushites does it take to screw in a lightbulb?". Probably reproduced a couple of ancient gags without even knowing it. :)

I'm not totally surprised, although I am disappointed, that Obama isn't prosecuting them. But you could see that coming when his Congressional ally Pelosi took impeachment off the table in January, 2007. Obama and many Dems value continuity over justice.

Most informed people don't expect government to solve all our problems, or do everything it should Elections are always a matter of choices. I thought Obama would be marginally better than McCain, so I voted for him. I've been voting too long to believe in "Messiahs," though. FWIW

" I'm not totally surprised, although I am disappointed, that Obama isn't prosecuting them."

I'm not surprised either and am disappointed.

"But you could see that coming when his Congressional ally Pelosi took impeachment off the table in January, 2007. Obama and many Dems value continuity over justice."

True. I had such high hopes for a Democratic congress, worked hard for and contributed to Claire McCaskill, even sent her a little write up on alternative fuels that her staff borrowed some phrasing from, then the Pelosi/Reid congress became enablers of Bush; no impeachment, no serious investigations, no turning off the tap of war funding, and passing telecom immunity within FISA, as well qas passing the new Patriot Act and taking addition to national debt from $500b to $700b to lqast year's obscene $1.4t. I still describe myself as an '06 Democrat.

"Most informed people don't expect government to solve all our problems, or do everything it should"

I'm still waiting for an "anything it should." Of my half dozen or so core issues, my inner tree hugging environmentalist is the only one not demanding Barack Bush's impeachment:)

"Elections are always a matter of choices."

But seldom good choices in a system where the left and right fringes tend to dominate the nominations and where he who has the most money wins the presidency.

"I thought Obama would be marginally better than McCain, so I voted for him."

I voted McCain because he was a veteran, was a personal "hero" of mine, would have been, by choice, a one term president, and for split government.

"I've been voting too long to believe in "Messiahs," though. FWIW"

Agree. One of the perspectives in Judaism is that Moshiach, when he comes, will be a validation that man, in partnership with G*d and guided by Tikkun Olam, has redeemed the world. Moshiach will be the Gold Star on the final exam, not the savior, so I expect no more from an elected employee than to do his job for the good of the country rather than the good of himself. That makes me tend to vote against incumbents. Finally, we get to faith based. I am no longer "off topic:)"
