You're Not.

in a really obvious kind of way.
Low Dem Turnout in VA
by Urquhart
Pretty much expected. The Obama Effect only works when, y'know, he's on the ballot.
Christie: Open Bar
by Urquhart

Big fat guy with an open bar. Is there anything else he could do to win my virtual vote?

I could do with a little less Springsteen music, perhaps. But it's Joisey. Gotta take the rough with the smooth.

Looking like the GOP is
by Gatewood

kicking arse across the political boards tonight. I am a bit surprised to tell you the truth. All elections are local, is a traditional political mantra, but it looks to me as if its a general refutation of Obama's ultra liberal policies.

Regardless of how things ultimately turn out the democratic leadership DID NOT expect tight races much less GOP blowouts in these races even a couple of months ago what with Obama's MANDATE and therefore their free hand to do any damn thing they wanted in regard to radical policies.

Interesting and interesting political repercussions. So it goes.

Elephant in the Room, as We Wait
by Urquhart

Referendum on Obama, yada yada. I think it clearly is, though some have pre-emptively disagreed.

But what effect will it have on votes in the Senate? This is not asked idly. They tried to Rahm through the healthcare deal in July, so they wouldn't have to hear their constituents OK, that didn't work, so they tried to get it done by Halloween. And it fell apart. There's a reason why these elections were such a deadline. Because everyone knew they'd scare the bejeezus out of anyoneon the fence.

Obama's ratings are still high. The political worry for the Demo's is the lack of participation from those who don't normally participate... but did in the 2008 general. The youth, the hispanic, the blacks stayed home. Staying home doesn't lessen the support for the white house, it just means the white house doesn't have long coat tails.
Independents = Former Republicans
by Urquhart
Not exactly great news for the GOP. But it explains why Independents vote Republican in such wide margins. And why we still win a lot.
And you my dear. . .

51% Ain't High
by Urquhart

Stories that casually mention "Obama's wide popularity" irritate me. Sloppy journalism. Obama isn't widely popular. He's deeply popular, among certain segments. Which is a powerful resource, but shouldn't be confused with wide support.

Folks that don't show up can't complain.

should've left it alone, your first reply was better.

Christie Wins, Chrisite Lost
by Urquhart

Chubby-American Chris Christie has reportedly won Gloucester county (pronounced gloster).

Christie Whitman lost that county when she was elected gubernator.

In general, independents
by Gatewood

are people tired of the chronic lying and duplicity infecting both parties from top to bottom. So they are sort of roving political spoilers.

They give their temporary loyalty and support to people making the most convincing argument that they will govern or legislate from the standpoint of common sense based on integrity. Frequently, of course, they are inevitably disappointed by the results.

451 Votes Counted in NY-23!
by Urquhart

Hoffman's got over 75%. Dede Scozzflava's got 8. Not percent, just votes. 8. Not sure how the Democrat's doing, but who cares?

I suspect it's the effect of those "overzealous electioneers" cited earlier.

Wait a minute here!
by Gatewood
Holy crud! I thought that conservatism and the GOP were dead. The press assured us of that 'fact' after Obama won in 2008. How, then can this be? Shades of Halloween!
Beware the Sarahcuda

Rising from their graves, those pesky conservatives.
