Re: Romans 5:8
by Patrick

"That could be an interesting post Patrick, sadly fortunateson is missing. And you know what the reaction would be ? You being the 'devil' of the moment :)"

Ah I'd kick Fortunateson's ars. We've had many a debates.

"This is Nano btw not Dd :) I promise :) Dd has been posting as Wednec but seams to have disappeared again. They are though very different people :)"

Nope, they are the same. Don't know how I know but they are. Think he signed "DD" once a few years back. I tend to...remember a few little things here and there. I could be mistaken but I find it most likely.

Re: Romans 5:8

"There is no definitive answer, since this subject involves a faith-based interpretation of a myth which cannot be tested for veracity."

Um, you can test the definitions and consult lexicons.

And I still think Nano is DD.
Re: Romans 5:8

What's that mean? You plagiarize from Paul and speak to me as an ancient people to suggest by proxy that I don't understand your words, which originates in narcissism no doubt because um you're not Paul? Nor do you have the spiritual authority to have received this as revelation from God concerning my state. Yet here you are quoting blinding.

Or does this simply mean you're not prepared to debate? Ah come on? Wuss? *tries to fish DD out* Come on, drop the act. Let's hear some of that REAL fire and brimstone speech we used to get from DD.

How about this? Calvin sucks! He was deceived by Lucifer. *snickers* Care to play yet? Calvinism is a cult! *grins*

Re: Romans 5:8

Speaking evil of man is about lies and slander. Just speaking negatively of a person doesn't count. For example, Christ called people hypocrites, but he usually challenged with justifications. Randomly scanning Titus shows this too: he calls Cretians liars in Tit. 1:12-13: the Cretians are always liars...This witness is true. But yeah, the charity/love aspect of Christianity often seems violated. So true I think.

There are two aspects to Christianity though, the latter is often over looked. One is love; the other is courage. For example, you cannot be passive and underreact but must "step up". We are admonished to wear the armor of Christ for example, but it's coupled with love to be a "peaceful warrior". Underreacting is a sin because is shows weakness and is accompanied by thoughts of supposing you're more righteous than others who overreact - hence demonstrates pride. Peacemaking doesn't mean you let someone walk all over you either. It means you get back up after they slap you in the face and you challenge again (if you want, you are not compelled), whereupon you let them hit you on the other cheek. Kind of like you do me all the time?

;)

Re: Romans 5:8

Btw, you want me to hear? It's a fundamental tenet of Christianity that you listen in order to be heard (e.g. blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy, etc). You completely ignored what I said and blindly quoted scripture. And I still think Calvin sucks so you have to think about this a little more now! So do I get your words now or the words of a dead guy named Paul? But...you can be a necromancer if you want I guess?

Dd used to post Bible quotations too sometimes, until I got to know them, I too muddled them up at first :)

Nano, who is gentle , has been away for a while, he is recovering now from a long and terrible illness. Dd on the other hand has been banned from Slate for being wicked and bad :)

Re: Romans 5:8

What did Paul say about love ? I will look it up later .............
Re: Romans 5:8
by NightSwimmer

“In the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.”

Or did you mean a different Paul?

Re: Romans 5:8
by white light
I thought that he said that love was the only thing that mattered .....I will look it up and get back later.

The Greek word "agape" is most often translated as "love" but in this case "charity". They are interchangeable.

1Co 13:1
¶ Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
1Co 13:2
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
1Co 13:3
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
1Co 13:4
¶ Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
1Co 13:5
Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
1Co 13:6
Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
1Co 13:7
Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
1Co 13:8
¶ Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
1Co 13:9
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
1Co 13:10
But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
1Co 13:11
When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
1Co 13:12
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
1Co 13:13
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Re: Romans 5:8

' Although I speak in the tongues of men and Angels, if I don't love, I am just a brash trumpet or a tinkling bell. Even if I have the gift of prophesy and the faith to move mountians, if I don't love I am nothing, I may give everthing I have to feed the poor, and my body to be burned, but if I don't love it won't benifit me at all '

Ditto, Nano :)
That's...interesting

I guess it means something to 'True Believers.' It persuades me only of Christian hypocrisy. Guess you guys sure did fail that Christ guy, huh?
