Re: What's the matter with West Virginia?
by jrd_2
I grew up in rural WV and went to undergrad at WVU before moving to New York City, but while I might have some insight into the workings of the state's mentality, I'm at a bit of a loss to explain this. I suspect that it's simply an accumulation of all the usual suspects: Clinton's strength with working-class voters, residual racism, anti-elitism, and the general gullibility of a generally uneducated and not particularly politically engaged population. I don't know the current breakdown in party affiliation in WV, but while there is a relatively strong Democratic segment to the population, it is generally a relatively socially conservative, pro-union, anti-environmentalist group, not exactly the sort of Democrats with which Obama's campaign has resonated thus far. I also think, racism aside, that Obama's name and biography might be just a bit too exotic for the comfort of most West Virginians, the large majority of which, I'm confident in guessing, have never been outside the United States.

Very valid points, JRD_2. I am from KY; the same culture exists there. I would be surprised if she does not win WV and KY by at least 15 points each.

Just so you know, when I last checked, none of the three Presidential candidates have ever been President (...and I am being very generous in calling Hilary a potential Presidential candidate, since she cannot win the Democratic nomination). So, your argument that his inexperience in the Senate would somehow hinder his ability to effectively serve as President is moronic.

Also, please stop with the Hamas "endorsement" rubbish. How does it feel to lack the ability to think for yourself? It seems as though you will believe, Grryl, any fantastic piece of propaganda that is fed to you by entities that believe YOU are an IDIOT (...and you appear to be). If you used your pea-brain to actually THINK about some of these statements, you may realize how incredibly ridiculous they are. Which is a testament to the intellectual capacity of the American public really... so, friggin, gullible.

Democrats outside of WV and KY think they are the only intellectuals in country. What's the matter with the democrats?

how about learning the basics of civil disagreement?

Would that include your use of "moron" in response to his comment about indoor plumbing?

Worry about your own posts, dear.
