The piece on radio from a week ago answers a question I've been thinking about: how do you photograph sound? These photographs give a number of answers: show people talking, show people listening, show a device known for generating sound. But each in its own way communicates sound more subtly, through colors and textures as well as subject matter. The blur of bikes in the background of sybaritic sportscasting, the jazz-like ripples of water behind the sleeping man, the gorgeous purple patchwork wall in photo number four, through patchworks of light and traffic in the next images, and in the gorgeous orange adobe of a house that I can hear nearly as clearly as the radio. Indeed, that photo (#16) has a smell and a taste as well, a personality of photographer as well as photographed.
