Both sides?
by pennywit

I perused the reading list quickly, and I may have missed it. Does Noah's reading list include anything from the conservative side of the argument? Perhaps discussing market-oriented solutions to the health-care mess?

I read Regina Herzlinger's book and came away unimpressed, but I'd be interested if anybody's actually tackled market-based policies in a thoughtful, substantive manner.

In the next-to-last paragraph, Noah says,

"In The Cure: How Capitalism Can Save American Health Care, David Gratzer makes the conservative case for a free-market solution to the health care mess. He's lucid—but wrong."

Also, "...the Web site for the insurer-funded Campaign for an American Solution..." may well have "market-oriented solutions" to suggest.

Thanks. Look like I didn't read closely enough.

we have been trying market based since the 80's... its a failure from my (primary care doc) perspective. all the incentives are wrong, and prevention is impossible to measure; how do you reward it? thus, unless there is some literature with evidence of market success (not just in cost containment, but in improving quality), id love to see it.
