I really enjoyed this piece. It was interesting and thought-provoking.

It did, however, remind me of a 1972 film called "Silent Running." It's the story of a future in which all plant life on Earth is extinct, except for the specimens that were launched into space aboard floating greenhouses.

The movie is notable for its special effects, created before they became ultra-sophisticated through computer generation. "Silent Running" was directed by Douglas Trumbull who created the special effects for "2001: A Space Odyssey."
