Aren't we supposed to assume that the humans stored seeds in their ship? They were prepared for a return.

I assumed that there were seeds stored somewhere as well; if not on the ship, then on one of the many, many crumbling buildings sitting around. And the humans had a self-sustaining ship, so that should have kept them going while they wandered around finding seeds and figuring out how to get them going.
