Cow's milk or soy milk?
by Bernadette Marcum

You failed to mention that Soy and most organic cow's milk is pasteurized at an "Ultra High Heat" This is to add extra shelf life to the product because it is shipped far from the manufacturing plant.

This adds energy costs and a somewhat burnt nutty flavor.

I feel it is best to find fresh cow's milk that is bottled locally from a dairy that uses environmentally responsible practices.

If we're comparing two products in terms of environmental damage, and both of them include the same step in the manufacturing process, why would we add that to the comparison?

Also, who cares what you "feel" is best for the environment? I may feel that dumping lead into rain forests won't be environmentally damaging, but that doesn't mean I'm right. We should look for what is actually better for the environment. It takes far more resources to raise a cow to get milk than to convert soy into soy milk, hands down.

But if Green Lantern commenters only stuck to what they knew, there would be no posts at all! Cut Bernadette some slack. She's just offering her opinion. She said "I feel"; you said "hands down." You're both equally lacking in hard facts.

well I'm basing it on what was said in the article itself "That makes soy protein approximately 13 times more energy-efficient than even organic dairy protein under a best-case scenario."

Perhaps I was too harsh (I'll admit I'm a bit grumpity and tired today), but the entire article here posted was going through why soy milk is more efficient than dairy in just about every case! The only facts I need to present are in the article itself, therefore the burden of producing information rests on Bernadette, no? In that case, we need more than a feeling (even if we're outside of Boston).
