I do not recall there ever having been much talk, at any time, about what a great fielder Jeter (supposedly) is. He's a great hitter and smart player and smart fielder, but, ignoring the gold gloves (big thing to ignore I know), I don't recall ever thinking: what a fantastic shortstop, even before the sabrmetric analysis
