First of all Generation Kill was an awful book, poorly written that had neither excitement nor any special relevance. It did a poor job of even one note characterizations of the people involved.
Based on this review the movie/series will do even worse. Oh sure it has the normal cast of homophobes, rednecks etc that everyone expects are in the military. At least the shills in their ivory towers who right shitty reviews about shitty movies made from shitty books.
For everyone of those bright misogynists in the service I can list for your 2-4 really smart people who are changing the world for the better. The PhDs, the college kids, the hard working folks from humble beginnings.
Stop painting with the wide strokes and the fat brushes and try to get to know some soldiers who like it or not are bleeding for your benefit. They didn't start this war, but you can bet they will finish it.
I look forward to Gen Kill just so I can mock its stupidity and vapidness (like I did when I read the book) and sadly reflect on how no one can provide a balanced view of the American military ethos. (Over There was probably more balanced and realistic)
