Chris Suellentrop has up for discussion at Opinionator
<link> George Packer's New Yorker take on Hitchens's Vanity Fair report of his experience with waterboarding.

It seems that the pro-war side is not averse to making money off the war, even if it leads to a diminishing of the value of their own product.

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that George Packer's contribution lies in the grace with which he is able to inform the reader of the fact that while one man's son is expected to die for the cause of a bunch of clowns and witches, a second man's son can be raised free even of a need to suit up and peel potatoes at the Pentagon.

What next, I wonder. Laius, father of Oedipus, did, in fact, seek to marry a woman who could do without brooches?
