My brief chat with Bucky
by ClayBlasdel

I called-in to Larry King's Open Phone America to ask Fuller a question. Back in those days, I would phone King's show at 11:01pm. If I received a ringing signal, I knew I would get-in; A busy signal means try again. I got a ringing signal, and st down the phone and let it ring for about 2 hours, until Larry was ready to take calls at 1pm.

My question to Fuller was: Given the nuclear buildup and our overpopulated world vying for water, food and natural resources, aren't we on a collision course for N-war, when two countries will ultimately fight a war over natural resources and drag-in their nuclear-armed allies on both sides leading to a nuclear confrontation and ultimately N-War.

Fuller told King he could not hear me. (I don't know why.) I think he was feigning it because Larry heard me clearly. So I fed Larry the question, sentence by sentence and he repeated it to Fuller.

Fuller brushed off the question by claiming that he'd need to examine my premises before drawing a conclusion. His response was bullshit. For some reason, he didn't want to touch the question.

He wasn't comfortable with the radio format. It was a loooooong show for Larry who needed to repeat every single question to Fuller. Sometimes a caller would ask something and Fuller would reply immediately with no translation so I know he could hear the callers.

On that night,at least, Fuller was full of it. But I remember him saying that he was most comfortable being called 'Bucky'.
