All sports have games where the dominating team loses or the game is determined by a (fair or unfair) penalty. Soccer is just like any other sport in this respect, no more or less "just".

And the idea that a recent trend in immigration and the ability to concede that the other team played better explain soccer's enduring popularity in Europe is just silly.
