Please kill it quickly and without remorse. It sucks as a catch phrase, as a meme, as a verb, and as political commentary. It fails every conceivable test of elegance or wit. It's just a stupid, stupid phrase, yet talking heads and writers of headlines persist in using it.

Don't get me started on "uptick," either.
