If you have to advertise it...
by wmw4
If you have to advertise it, it probably tastes like horse piss. I agree with the other posts that none of these beers are worth a dam (nor is any light beer for that matter - if calories are your main concern, stick to grain alcohol). Europe has some great beers, but the great ones are either not imported, or don't survive the journey. The fact is that America has some of the greatest beers in the world, but the good ones rarely advertise - they don't have to. When's the last time you saw an ad for Harpoon IPA or Sierra Nevada pale ale?

One man's horse piss is another man's nectar.

Sierra Nevada is my favorite, but they simply can't afford to advertise.  They serve a niche market and don't stand to increase their share significantly by buying TV time.  Products like Bud and Coors advertise because the vast majority of beer drinkers in North America prefer the light lager style and there is not nearly as much to set their products apart.

I did notice that Sam Adam's runs commercials in my area.  It may not be my favorite but it's hardly horse piss, either.  And the ads are somewhat educational, describing the process and the various beers they offer.  This approach wouldn't work for a smaller brewer who only mass-produces one or two beers.
