Honduras - Ecological Tourism? Pathetic
by travelsapien
It is always amazing that good old educated, well off or at least mildly well off travelers fall in love with places like Honduras, Ecuador, Haiti, whatever and find them quaint, dream quality havens for weary minds and bodies in need of stimulation and evironmental change. WOW WOW WOW It is always facinating. Most of the so called countries of "Dreams" are hell holes on earth for those unfortunate to be born there and generationally bruised. Most of the inhabitants would give much to leave and go to your country rather than remain in your "dream' vacation land. Corruption, lack of engaging employment, depletion of natural resources due to unsanitary environment, lack of meaningful education turns these "dream" vacation lands into garbage heaps of toss away refuse and souls. Jamaica another example of a festering hell hole. Tourists see the sunshine, the 5 star hotels, the manicured beaches, the flush toilets, the access of water as an extention of their own environment but in reality outside the gleaming landscapes are shanty towns, rats, fecas material everywhere, brown water, no water, and worse. Welcome to Eco-Tourism as it really is in most parts of the world. Shameful yet what will travelers really do about it? Nothing. They will return home talking of their fabulous vacation and wonderful times. Meanwhile the inhabitants of such "dream locations" remain ignorant, uneducated, mired in poverty, no hope except perhaps escaping to your country and sell dope on the street corners to your kids. In this way they can send money home where their families can exist for yet another mouth to feed. Pretty pathetic picture. What will you do to change it?
