I fowarded this article on to my son, who for the last four years has taught at an inner city Los Angeles public middle school: His response:
"I can tell you unequivocally that they do. perhaps not for Romanian kids, but for poor LA kids it's a night and day difference. when I use the laptop cart (30 mac laptops) in my classroom, the kids start to really care about their work. they want their essays to be correct, and when they're using a laptop they can simply do better work, which makes them try even harder. I suppose it would be ideal if the kids had their own laptop that they were required to take to and from school, so the teachers could use them in class. Any way you slice it, laptops in schools are a huge asset."
