Polanski's guilt or innocence
by nemesis
I don't know whether Polanski is guilty or not, but everything I've heard over the years sure sounds as if he had sex with a 13 year old girl, and simply believes he should not be held accountable. I wonder if his defenders would still enthuse about him if it were their 13 year old daughter. If indeed he did have sex with a 13 year old, he's guilty. Period. The fact that he's famous, talented & popular has no effect on this.

Yeah, I'm as liberal as they get, and I am just plain confused about this.

Is there a counter-argument from Polanski's supporters? Do they allege the girl is a liar or something? Maybe I am in the dark, but on the straight facts -- sexual assault of a minor -- I don't really see where sympathy or forgiveness should be accorded.

But hey, maybe I don't know the "story behind the story". Is it just that the judge was a bastard (reneging on the plea agreement)? Because that doesn't really make Polanski innocent of the charges; just sucks for him, procedurally.

I'd like to believe there was more "gray" to this case, because so many people support him, but I don't see it. Can anybody enlighten me?
