difference between food and drugs in public policy
by buggie
I truly believe that food (or certain types of food) can be addictive in the same way as drugs. However, I also believe there is a large difference to consider when it comes to policy decisions, and that has to do with numbers. Everyone eats food, and most Americans have eaten fast food, chocolate, or junk food in their lives, yet not everyone is addicted. Contrast the much smaller proportion of the population who have actually tried smoking, cocain, heroine, etc, and the larger proportion of the people who have tried those that have become seriously addicted.

"Everyone eats food"

WRONG!

I don't eat food. Every time I get hungry I reach for some delicious crack... That way I don't get addicted to drugs such as hamburgers and milkshakes. Just one use and you too could be an addict!
