Military drones do indeed protect the soldier/operator from the injury and or death he might encounter if he is actually on the battlefield, but of course the question no one in the military asks is what about the idea that if war doesnt hurt you why would you not go to war? War by its natue is supposed to be hell-if it comes easy and painlessly you might become the evil inader robot army as enivisioned by sci fi fans-and who wants to be the next evil emporer (Cheney?) --

Very true. There was a sci-fi novel that addressed this in an interesting way. For one of the species, war was no holds barred, but everyone involved was terminated after. Quite the disincentive.
