Crazy thought!
by differnetEllen

With one in a hundred Americans incarcerated, maybe we should try some of these principles inside our own prison population;

Stone set out to apply counterinsurgency principles inside the centers' walls. Find the radicals, isolate them from the other detainees, and give the latter some hope for a life on the outside. In short, secure the population, marginalize the extremists, empower the moderates.

Stone brought in 60 imams to conduct religious classes and more than 200 Iraqi teachers to run an education program, as well as vocational trainers, psychiatrists, counselors, and contractors.

Give them hope that there is life after prison and maybe they won't come back. Oh but wait! That sounds suspiciously like European prisons.

Not crazy at all differnetEllen. You make an excellent point.

On a parallel line, an aquaintance of mine in the federal prison system (and a reserve officer) informs me there is a perverse militant teaching of Islam, and recruitment going on behind those walls. He also says, it is going on within the state systems as well.

Yikes!

Are you implying that we should spend tax money on the poorest of the American population in order to make their lives (and in the process, indirectly all of your lives too) better?

We have white collar prisons for the rare occasions that rich Americans are found guilty, you know. Things are OK, let's not go stirring things up.

Sounds contrary to the idea that the problem in Europe is the prison system and it's breeding of radical Muslims.
