A Prayer for Burma
by Anse
+4 Reply

As a Deist, I find the notion of prayer to be an irrational exercise. But there are times when one finds comfort in reaching out to the Great Eternal Unknown.

It is sad fact of human existence that catastrophe is a hurdle we must leap to find meaning and substance. I've read several wildly varying estimates of the death toll in Burma, but I think we can all agree that the situation might be among the most dire in modern history.

The military junta that controls Burma has denied visas to American and U.N aid workers. I don't know if I'm just in a particularly emotional state this morning, but reading this sent me into a tirade. I'm sitting here in my empty classroom, in my mostly empty wing of the school, and I'm screaming my head off.

Let us all pause for a moment today, and with our collective sense of justice, let us recite a solemn prayer for these beleaguered people. If there is a God in this universe, no matter how distant and far removed he is from his creation, let us send a united plea that will mark his conscience--if he has one--to bring justice to these people, and to the tyrants in Beijing who support their oppressors.

The Generals dont care about the little people. But we are very big dangerous badies and I do not think that they will let us in. I am also praying that they do.

Look, either they will or they won't.

If they do, the believers will say "See our prayers worked and God was merciful".

if they don't, the believers will say "God MUST have a plan and we should pray for those people to have the strength to see it through"

And of course, it's just dumb luck either way...or something more substantial like diplomatic pressure and political necessity.

I agree, my prayers go out for the people there.

The UN has stopped sending aid because the military there confiscate what they had sent.

DEISTS ARE PUSSIES. IF THERE'S A GOD, HE KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING. STOP KISSING HIS ASS. IF THERE ISN'T, STOP WASTING YOUR BREATH. EITHER WAY, GET OFF THE FENCE, NANCY.

Dunno about you, but I find pussies to be quite wonderful!

I personally and growing weary of your all caps rants.

OH, YOU ARE?
by MoreBlaBlaBla

WELL, I'LL FILE THAT NUGGET AWAY IN THE 'THINGS TO WORRY ABOUT WHEN I RUN OUT OF SHIT TO WORRY ABOUT' FILE. BECAUSE I DON'T GIVE A SHIT IF YOU ARE WEARY OR NOT. PERSONALLY.

HOW SELF-DELUDED DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO THINK YOU'RE WEARY OF MY ALL-CAPS RANTS AND THEN VOLUNTEER FOR YOUR OWN PERSONAL DOSE? DON'T THINK TOO HARD ABOUT IT. YOU'LL GET ALL WEARY.

You are merely jealous of anyone capable of rational thought that seeks communion with God in spite of the obvious deficits inherent in man-made religion.

I don't expect God to take orders from me when I pray, but that doesn't stop me from praying. In the worst case scenario, nothing is lost by praying. I don't need to know what is gained from prayer in order to participate.

And so, for what it's worth, my prayers join those of the other participants.

KUMBAYA, MY LORD! KUMBAYA! COME ON, EVERYBODY SING IT! IF WE WANT TO STOP CYCLONES AND END HUMAN SUFFERING WE NEED EVERYONE TO SING! YOU, JERKING OFF IN THE CORNER, SING! WAIT. MAYBE YOU'RE ONTO SOMETHING. MAYBE OUR SINGING DOESN'T REALLY DO ANYTHING, AND LET'S FACE IT, AS SINGERS WE SUCK. BUT THERE IS SOMETHING WE CAN ALL DO. WE CAN ALL MASTURBATE. THEN AT LEAST WE'LL ALL HAVE ORGASMS EVEN IF OUR JERKING OFF DOESN'T STOP HUMAN SUFFERING! YEAH! WHACK IT, EVERYBODY!
