A National Sales Tax works, effectively, just like a flat tax. A flat tax disproportionately charges the poor for services the rich can better afford.

It is all about how much money you leave them to spend on bread and butter. If Mr. Rich gives the government $1,000 dollars worth of tax money out of the $100,000 he has to spend he is left with $99,000 for bread and butter. If Mr. Poor gives the government the same $1,000 and has $10,000 to spend he is left with only $9,000 dollars for bread and butter.

Mr. Rich should pick up more of the burden so that Mr. Poor does not have to choose between feeding the kids or getting them basic dental care.

Not to mention that the sales tax is actually more regressive than a flat tax.

If Mr. Rich only spends 10% of what he makes he dosen't get taxed on 90% of his income. And due to the Republican effort to do away with inheritence taxes that 90% will never be taxed.

Creating family dynasties by protecting wealth seems to be the only issue Republicans fight for 100% of the time.

Better to put all federal spending on a progressive income tax, eliminate business taxes and deductions, and demand that our trade partners play by the rules.
