by dumb_blonde
when I switch from ratings to views, it says 15 views, 26 replies. Am I looking at it wrong?
Re: 220 views?

And how many of those 15 views were simply to vote thumbs down? I know one of them is mine.

Ouch, 11 negatives. haha.

But how is <-5> getting that he had 220 views?

Re: 220 views?
by Wrenn

All I see is 15 views and 26 replys as well.

Slate help says.

The "views" column shows you how many unique, registered users clicked into a given topic. Each user can account for only one view, even if he or she returns to a topic many times or reads many posts within that topic. Hits from anonymous users (who are not logged into the Fray) don't count toward the total number of views.

If you'd prefer not to see the number of views, you can toggle over to "rating" mode by clicking at the top of the "views/rating" column.

So REALITY is that 15 forum individual users looked at it (of which 11 voted thumbs down... have to check if I did or not, I probably didn't bother) and it generated 26 replys by forum posters.

That's a 73% negative rating on his post... Not something to brag about.

"That's a 73% negative rating on his post... Not something to brag about."

It is when you are a troll and think that negative ratings are a good thing. Remember, the normal troll posts simply to piss people off and he is no diferent. He appears to be a wannabe flamer who wouldn't last 5 seconds in a real flame group because he does not have the intellegence and wit necessary so he comes to regular groups and makes a total ass of himself.

just a typical person starved for attention, any attention, good or bad is welcomed.

I've thought the same onio-

on the 'wouldn't last a day' on some of the message lists (thankfully private) that I frequent. or some old usenet boards...

I think he should try his luck on the Compu-serve religion forum, except that if C*S* (one of the mods there) knew I advocated such she'd lynch me.

Though, he'd get banned pretty quick.

Wierd. They must be monkeying with the code... it did say 200 or so views before. And if you look at the current FB front page, there are top posts with 1 'view', but 14 'replies'... how would that be possible?

I suspect the old system vastly overcounted 'views' (by counting the same people looking at the thread over and over?) so they're trying to put in new metrics to make it more sensible. Still, something is goofy.

But
by Horus

...if it generated 26 posts, how could it not have generated more than 15 views? Not necessarily 26, since a single poster could have made multiple posts but would be credited with only a single reply, but more than 15, surely?

I thought I'd read that they indicated the number of views SINCE THE LAST POST or something like that.

Odd, you'd think it would just be a ticker that registered all views of the top-post in question.

Maybe... your post reset this thread to 1 'view'. Wonder what mine will do...

Re: 220 views?

No, what you have here is a plain old bug in the code. It only shows the views on the last post. For example, my Ceiling Cat thread below shows 4 views, but if I look at my post list, I see that my top post garnered 41 views, my second post 4 views, my third post 4 views, and my last post 2 views. Another thing about the bug, if GtheStranger views my top post on that thread, the top post view counter will say 42. But the Views display will stay 4 unless he reads Wrenn's post.

It's a known bug.

I see what you are saying, when I view this post through the forum, it says 3 views, but when I view it through my MBTU, it says 67 veiws.
Re: 220 views?
by SoreLoser

I've wondered about that Views stuff for a while. Sometimes it seems to say one thing and sometime later is says something less and I don't understand how that could work.

I went to <-5>'s post that he is so proud of and saw a View # of 16. When I clicked on his name to get the list of his posts, the Views # there was 60.

Re: 220 views?
by kgswiger
Exactly. They've supposedly corrected the view count in the Most Viewed list, to add together the view counts for each post in a thread, to get the thread view count.

He wouldn't mhave lasted a day on the boards I used to moderate either. I would have banned him after his first hate screed
