Remember, since the beginning of the women's movement in the 1970's, antifeminist conservatives have been harping on the notion that the rising divorce rates are all the fault of uppity feminists who dare to tell women that there might be something better for them than enduring bad marriages. But horror of horrors, just as Bill Clinton didn't resign the Presidency on cue when threatened with blackmail, Hillary Clinton didn't read from the script for the hard, heartless feminist. And so conservatives who had railed against the evils of divorce and of the presumptuous females who were presumably responsible for it had to find reasons to rail against a woman who held her marriage together.

They think their job involves mind-reading the personal motives of public figures, and are convinced that their ESP is infallible. Besides, it's a lot less work to write columns based on ESP than on old fashioned investigative reporting about facts.

Simple answer is that if she divorced Bill, her career as she knows it would be over.

Not because it makes sense, but because the same stereotypical media that has attempted and somewhat successfully pasted the "elite" stamp on Obama, would never allow a woman, let alone a single woman to be president.
