Thomas L. Friedman | Dumb as We Wanna Be <link> In The New York Times, Thomas L. Friedman says, "It is great to see that we finally have some national unity on energy policy. Unfortunately, the unifying idea is so ridiculous, so unworthy of the people aspiring to lead our nation, it takes your breath away. Hillary Clinton has decided to line up with John McCain in pushing to suspend the federal excise tax on gasoline, 18.4 cents a gallon, for this summer’s travel season. This is not an energy policy. This is money laundering."

It's a drop in the bucket.

It's worse than a drop in the bucket. It's political claptrap. The gasoline supply presently is inelastic and the price governed by what people are willing to pay. If they cut the 18 cent gas tax, then the market price just will rise to bring the supply and demand back into equilibrium --- another 18 cents. So, would you rather have that 18 cents to to the govt or to a bunch of stinking Arabs who want to see us either converted to Islam or dead?

Also, if they suspend the Federal gas tax, it'll be nearly impossible to re-instate it in the future.

Leave the damned tax alone.

I would say raise the tax and then let the middle and lower tax bracket people declare it on their taxes. ; enough of these gas guzzlers just for status. Status you want ,pay for it to the government so that the poor servicemen who loose limbs in Iraq get care.

Maybe this will show the citizens that Obama has their interest at heart and is not just a professional politician like you know who.

I do not think the Abrabs want us to convert to Muslim; they like our capitalist ways; they just want to live well in their country with our oil money. We cannot afford health care for all U.S. citizens so don't expect us to give the Arabs health care with our oil money and we certainly don't want China to give them money for the oil.. Have you seen the video about the Arab state, maybe Bohrain? It looks like Los Vegas; I think half the worlds cranes are there building sky scrapers and islands. with our oil money.
